Announcement by the Infrastructure Project Development Facility (IPDF), January 2012

Infrastructure Project Development Facility (IPDF), the central Public Private Partnership (PPP) unit established under the Ministry of Finance is organizing an Investors' Forum to be held on 1st February, 2012 at Pearl Continental Hotel, Karachi at 09:30 AM. The Forum will be showcasing the National Trade Corridor Cool Chain Project for development of horticulture sector in Pakistan on a Build, Own, Operate (BOO) basis. Statement on the fifth TIFA Council Meeting in Pakistan

The fifth round of the U.S.-Pakistan Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) Council meeting was held in Islamabad on September 20, 2011. Mr. Michael Delaney, Assistant U.S Trade Representative for South & Central Asia led the US side. The Pakistan delegation was led by the Secretary Commerce, Mr. Zafar Mahmood. The delegates discussed a wide range of investment climate issues including market access, the U.S. Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) program, trade promotion efforts, enforcement of intellectual property rights and sector-specific investment challenges. Both sides agreed to work together on measures that will promote private sector engagement between the two countries.

Renewal of the U.S. Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) Program, October 2011

On October 21, 2011,President Obama signed H.R.2832 entitled "Trade Adjustment Assistance Extension Act of 2011" into law. The legislation includes a retroactive GSP renewal through July 31, 2013. Importers of GSP-eligible products may seek reimbursement for tariffs paid between 1st January and November 4th, 2011. Refund procedures can be found on the U.S. Customs and Border Protection's website.
